Family Support Team (FST) at Hornbeam Academy
Hornbeam Academy Trust is proud to support the United Nations
Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).
All the Trust schools are committed to the ethos of a Rights Respecting School.
We will uphold the four General Principles of the CRC which are:
We will use these to help us to interpret ALL the other CRC Articles which play a fundamental role in realising ALL the rights in the Convention for ALL children.
We expect all our staff to put the best interests of the child at the centre of all we do and actively promote the key rights respecting values of non-discrimination, participation, child safety and personal development.
We believe that every child has the right to say what they think in all matters affecting them and to have their views taken seriously.
The Family Support Team (FST) is a reflection of the Academy’s commitment and to provide the best education, care and support to our students and their families.
What do we do?
Our main role is the development of a partnership with parents and the professionals involved in each child’s life to make sure that they reach their full potential.
We maintain communication between school, home and other professionals to a high standard, providing opportunities for parents to express their views, hopes and concerns in regard to their child’s development, education and health.
We support parents and carers in a number of ways; including helping to fill in forms, writing letters and of course, by being a listening ear. We are also able to make referrals to many different services and organizations that can support families to overcome specific challenges.
We are part of the Academy’s Safeguarding Team and work very closely with the Waltham Forest Early Help Division, Children’s Social Care and the Disability Enablement Service.
Who are we?
The Family Support Team is Juana Solano (FST Manager) and Sam Bagshaw (Family Support Worker); we both have different backgrounds and experience which enriches our practice and the support we are able to provide.
Our main drive is the strong belief that children and young people who attend our school deserve to be safe, happy and able to access the education and support to which they are entitled.
Hornbeam Academy is part of the Early Help partnership. They support the yearly placement of Student Social Workers to the academy who become valuable members of the Family Support Team.
